DE GÊNERO NO RECIFE OITOCENTISTA 18601890

Resumo: O presente artigo analisa os ditos desvios sexuais femininos no
Recife do século XIX. O objetivo é entender como as questões privadas, in-
terligadas às práticas sexuais, à sexualidade e aos códigos de honra alcançaram
a esfera pública e a atenção das instituições de controle social, como a Igreja
Católica, bem como os procedimentos dessa no intuito de solucionar prob-
lemas ocasionados pelos presumidos desajustes de algumas figuras femininas
que não se adequaram passivamente ao modelo de mulher idealizado por uma
sociedade criada por e para homens. Metodologicamente, usaremos os pres-
supostos teóricos da categoria gênero, no intento de entender a construção
social dos papeis forjados para homens e mulheres.

Abstract: This article analyzes the so-called female sexual deviations in 19th
century Recife. The objective is to understand how private issues linked to
sexual practices, sexuality and codes of honor reached the public sphere and
caught the attention of institutions of social control, such as the Catholic
Church, as well as the procedures of these institutions used to solve problems
caused by the presumed misbehavior of some female figures, who did not
passively conform to the model of woman idealized by a society created by
and for men. Methodologically, we will use the theoretical assumptions of the
Gender category in an attempt to understand the social construction of roles
for men and women.
