VIOLÊNCIA CONTRA A MULHER

Resumo: Este artigo oferece uma visão evolucionária da violência contra a
mulher e desenvolve, a partir das biólogas Barbara Smuts, Patricia Gowaty e
outros, uma teoria evolucionária do patriarcado. Primeiro introduzimos aso-
ciobiologia e explicamos como o conflito entre as estratégias reprodutivas
masculina e feminina pode tão facilmente levar à violência. Na sessão seguinte
reforçamos com o estudo dos chimpanzés – nossos parentes vivos mais próxi-
mos – a ideia de que muito do comportamento humano é derivado de milhões
de anos de adaptações evolutivas. Feito isso, apresentamos um modelo evolu-
cionário da violência contra a mulher para depois, na conclusão, esboçar uma
teoria evolucionária do patriarcado.

Abstract: This article oers an evolutionary view of violence against women
and develops, bearing on biologists Barbara Smuts, Patricia Gowaty and oth-
ers, an evolutionary theory of patriarchy. We first introduce the reader to
sociobiology and explain how conflicts between male and female reproductive
strategies can so easily lead to violence. In the next session, we bear on the
chimpanzees – our closest living relatives– to reinforce the idea that human
behavior derives from millions of years of evolutionary adaptations. Then, we
present evolutionary theories that address violence against women. Finally, in
the conclusion we put everything together to better present an evolutionary
model of patriarchy.
