Braskem, SCG to produce green plastics in Asia

Braskem, the world’s largest producer of biopolymers, and SCG Chemicals, one of Thailand’s largest petrochemical companies, have advanced plans to produce green plastic in Asia, signing an agreement to create Braskem Siam Company Limited, which will operate a plant in Map Ta Phut, Thailand.The joint venture, whose constitution is subject to the final investment decision of the partners, will focus on the production of a renewable feedstock, bioethylene, from the dehydration of ethanol, which will then be used to produce biopolyethylene.Braskem Siam will carry out the engineering project for the plant, an important step for the final investment decision to be taken in the last quarter of 2024, when the boards of directors of Braskem and SCG will deliberate on this issue.The Thai bioethylene plant will be the first of its kind outside Brazil and will almost double Braskem’s production capacity of green polyethylene, called "I’m green," to meet the rapidly growing demand for sustainable products in Asia.In...
