Brazil eyes R$10bn meat export boost to China with new certifications

On a day regarded as a milestone for Brazil’s animal protein industry, China announced on Tuesday (12) that 38 Brazilian units are now authorized to export beef, poultry, and pork to its market. That is the largest number of industrial plants certified at once, which could generate an annual increase of around R$10 billion in the country’s exports. Of the total number of certified units, 34 are meat processors and four are commercial warehouses. Most are in the beef segment."The estimate on the increase in export revenue takes into account the revenue of a medium-sized plant exporting to China, around R$300 million annually," Secretary of Commerce and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture Roberto Perosa told Valor.JBS was the company with the most certifications in the new round, with 10 plants approved, while Seara was authorized to export poultry and pork products from Itajaí, Santa Catarina.Among the sector’s giants, Marfrig had its plant in Bataguassu (Mato Grosso do Sul) approved to ship unprocessed meat. It is one of the group’s largest units. The company also obtained its first approval to export processed beef to China from the plant of its subsidiary Pampeano, located in Hulha Negra, Rio Grande do Sul."The qualifications reflect the company’s continuous commitment to meeting the highest food safety standards required by international markets," Alisson Navarro, Marfrig’s export director, told Valor.BRF, which is also controlled by Marfrig, obtained approval for shipping poultry through its Chapecó unit, in Santa Catarina. "This new qualification marks the increase in China’s trust in BRF and its brands. An important step towards consolidating our global operations," highlighted BRF’s Vice-President of International Market and Planning Leonardo Dall’Orto.Minerva obtained authorization for two of its units, one in Janaúba (Minas Gerais) and the other in Araguaína (Tocantins).
