Brazilian consumers rank 4th highest in optimism, Ipsos survey says

The improvement in economic growth projections for this year helped to boost Brazilian consumer confidence in February, and the country was ranked among the four most optimistic in the world, according to a monthly survey by the Ipsos group.The Consumer Confidence Index (ICC) measured by Ipsos increased by 1.9 points and closed February at 58 points. The increase comes after three months of consecutive declines. In comparison with February 2023, the indicator rose 0.4 points.With the increase, Brazil passed Singapore in comparison with January and was only behind India (69.4 points), Indonesia (65.2) and Thailand (60.4).According to Ipsos CEO Marcos Calliari, the improvement compared to January is related to more optimistic market projections for the Brazilian GDP’s growth."Some positive impacts were also seen, such as the green flag in electricity bills maintained by the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) over the last month," he said, referring to the government’s decision to maintain electricity prices.Mr. Calliari also points out that January is typically a month with lower rates due to the debts consumers incur on with seasonal end-of-year spending and that the improvement in...
