Government to grant student financing amnesty to low-income youth

The Bolsonaro administration is preparing an amnesty of up to 92% for low-income students who have debts to the Fund of Student Financing (Fies) - and are entitled to the cash-transfer program Auxílio Brasil or are registered to benefit from federal social programs.The idea of giving a discount to the most vulnerable, as Valor has learned, came from the Economy minister, Paulo Guedes, but the model of this benefit was being worked out by the technicians with education and economy ministries.Sources in the economic area point out that the measure should not have fiscal impact. This is because, explains a source, the credits that will be discounted are debts already considered irrecoverable.The issue, which has been discussed for three months within the government, is expected to be addressed by a provisional measure.
