Haddad asks bankers for vote of confidence, sources say

In a visit to the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) on Tuesday, Finance Minister Fernando Haddad asked for a vote of confidence from bankers on the conduct of economic policy and the fiscal issue.According to people who attended the meeting, Mr. Haddad said there has been a lot of noise in the first month in office, revealed that an assessment of the government’s problems is mostly complete, and reiterated that he intends to send to Congress by the end of April the proposal for a new fiscal framework.Mr. Haddad did not elaborate on the new rules for public spending, but said the economic team is looking for a design that is "credible and feasible," according to an executive who attended the meeting.The breakfast, hosted by Febraban, brought together the three economic ministers - Mr. Haddad, Simone Tebet (Planning), and Esther Dweck (Public Management and Innovation) -, as well as Agriculture Minister Carlos Favaro and the president of the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), Aloizio Mercadante.
