Investments in concessions estimated at R$78bn in 2022

The government estimates at R$78 billion the volume of investments to be made in 2022 through the concessions already auctioned by the Investment Partnerships Program (PPI) in areas such as airports, highways, oil and gas exploration, electricity, sanitation and others.These are long-term contracts, mostly for 20 or 30 years, which include expansion plans in the projects granted. In total, investments to be made during the term of these contracts amount to R$825 billion. This figure is expected to reach R$1.3 trillion, with the auctions scheduled for 2022.It was based on these numbers that Economy minister Paulo Guedes said on Tuesday that Brazil is "doomed to grow" in this and the coming years. The country, he said, has the largest and most ambitious portfolio of concessions in the world. By 2025, R$360 billion will be invested.These investments, added to the recovery of the job market, will lead economic growth this year, said Economic Policy secretary Adolfo Sachsida. As supply shocks from the past year, such as the breakdown of supply chains, the drought and the pandemic, are overcome, the economy will perform better than most market forecasts, he said.Mr. Guedes had already been talking, at events, about the approximately R$800 billion in contracted investments.
