Lula defends multilateralism, dialogue with countries from other regions

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on Tuesday that Latin America can make a "clear contribution" to the "construction of a peaceful world order, based on dialogue, the strengthening of multilateralism, and the collective construction of multipolarity." He also called for the "deepening of dialogues with extra-regional partners" such as the European Union, China, India, the African Union, and ASEAN, which brings together countries in Southeast Asia.Mr. Lula made these statements in Buenos Aires in his speech to the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) summit. His presence at the summit marks the country’s return to the forum that brings together heads of state from the 33 countries in the region. His predecessor, Mr. Bolsonaro, withdrew the country from the entity.In his speech, President Lula emphasized Brazil’s return to dialogue with its neighbors, a priority of his foreign policy.
