Mantiqueira invests in cage-free egg production

Mantiqueira, the largest chicken eggs producer in Brazil, has yet another year of favorable prospects for sales in the domestic and foreign markets, and continues to invest in expanding its production capacity to take advantage of this potential and advance in its commitments to the welfare of the birds and the sustainability of the business.With the economic crisis that encouraged the consumption of cheaper proteins in the country, Mantiqueira ended 2021 with R$1.086 billion in revenues, almost 40% more than in 2020, and expects to exceed R$1.3 billion in 2022. But not only because of the problems in the economy, but because of a trend that has gained strength regardless of the decreasing purchasing power of the population."In the past three years, this market has entered a very positive phase. The egg was ‘absolved of its sins’. It is no longer considered to be a problem to health and it is present in 95% of the country’s homes. The scenario is promising, although the increase in costs is a concern," said Leandro Pinto, the group’s founder and CEO.Caused by higher grain prices and its impact on poultry feed, this increase in costs has put pressure on margins and required a more efficient hedging policy. In this sense, the heated demand and the scale gains achieved collaborate to ease the pressure a little.Earlier this month, Mr. Pinto received the secretary of Agriculture of São Paulo, Itamar Borges, at the new "model 4.0" farm that Mantiqueira is building in the municipality of Lorena, with investments initially estimated at around R$100 million.It is the main ongoing project of the company.
