Petrobras may put sale of stake in Braskem on hold

The sale of Petrobras’s stake in Braskem is uncertain after Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers’ Party, PT) won the presidential race, sources involved in the talks say. The state-owned oil company hired J.P. Morgan as an adviser last year, when Novonor, the company formerly known as Odebrecht, decided to sell its share. With the sale of Novonor’s stake, Petrobras may or may not exercise the right of preference to acquire the partner’s stake, sell its part or remain in the business.
