Third Brazilian senator dies of Covid-19

Senator Major Olimpio (Social Liberal Party, PSL, of São Paulo), 58 years of age, has died of Covid-19. He is the third Brazilian senator to die of the disease. Mr. Olimpio was elected in 2018, with 9 million votes, and was initially an allied of Jair Bolsonaro, but they later clashed because, according to the lawmaker, the president asked him to block an investigation, what he refused. The senator criticized Mr. Bolsonaro's lead to tackle the pandemic and defended a faster vaccination program.
