Revista Eletrônica de Biblioteconomia e Ciência da
Informação
Florianópolis, February 8, 2015
This special edition of Encontros Bibli offers to the public papers on cutting edge topics
in knowledge organization. It presents research on typologies of knowledge
organization systems (KOS), ethics in knowledge organization, and on the
representation of non-textual materials in this case music and images. Each, in their
own right, can be seen as developments that reshape our understanding of the dialogue
and foundations of knowledge organization. We learn from De Lara that there are
many comparable attributes to KOS, and that we need to keep asking how we might
build typologies of KOS. Both Guimarães and S miraglia offer us in their papers insight
into the foundational issues related to ethics in knowledge organization, with their
views arising from a domain-analytic perspective. Finally, Lacruz, as well as Laplante,
discuss case studies of representation, in which we learn about myriad variables that
affect the representation process. It is the editors' hope that this collection of papers
reflects the state of the art and raises some interesting questions for knowledge
organization in both the Brazilian and the international context.
